The UNHCR is looking for a Communications Intern

Terms of ReferenceFor six months, the Communications Intern will work in the Media and Communications Unit of UNHCR’s Representation for EU Affairs, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands (REUA) in Brussels. The Unit is in charge of communications and media efforts in support of UNHCR’s work in the EU, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

REUA is a Multi Country Office (MCO). REUA works with a range of stakeholders including from the European Union (EU) Institutions and agencies in those countries falling under the MCO structure. UNHCR also works hand in hand with UNHCR headquarters, regional bureaux and country offices.

Table of Contents

Main duties and responsibilities

Draft daily media summaries (focus on EU affairs)
Support media and social media monitoring (focus on EU affairs)
Report on EU developments and press conferences
Support the Unit’s content production (e.g. web-stories, videos) and events
Provide administrative, logistical and other assistance as required
Support with translations from English to French or vice versa
Provide team cover as needed

In order to be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled:

Be a recent graduate (i.e. have completed studies within 2 years of applying) from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO)
Have no direct family ties with a UNHCR staff member (including Temporary Appointment holder) nor with a member of the Affiliate Workforce
Have the right to reside and work in Belgium
Excellent command of English, knowledge of French is an advantage
Strong drafting and editing skills
Enthusiasm for all things communications (media, social, digital, events)
Attention to detail
Team-player and professional approach
